Formation
Kipsigis Highlands was formed and registered with the Ministry of Co-operatives in 2010. Its establishment was inspired by the desire of our people and leaders to acquire significant shareholding and ownership of tea estates within our region whenever they became available. The co-operative model was identified as the most effective vehicle to achieve this goal.
Membership
Today, we are proud to have over 5,000 shareholders from Bomet, Kericho, Narok, and Nakuru counties. On 1st July 2012, we successfully acquired 1,500 acres (600 hectares) of mature tea estates from James Finlays Kenya Ltd — financed through member contributions and bank support.
Flagship Project
In line with our 2013–2018 Strategic Plan, our flagship project was the establishment of a tea processing factory. We are proud to report that we now operate a state-of-the-art factory with a processing capacity of 80,000 kilograms of green leaf per day.
Contribution
Our society employs more than 400 people across the tea estate and factory, contributing to national development through job creation. We sell 90% of our teas through the Mombasa auction, with the remaining 10% sold locally under our garden marks: Tea-Max Fresh, Konoito Tea, and SangSang Tea.
Promise to Shareholders
We are pleased to note that early shareholders have already recouped their initial investment. For over a decade, we have consistently paid competitive dividends and remain committed to delivering even greater value in the years ahead.
Long live Kipsigis Highlands!
